HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - 19490520Minutes of the Board of Commissioners Friday, May 20, 1949 The Board met at the usual hour in the Commissioners' Room at the Courthouse, with all members present. This was a special meeting held for the purpose of considering some important matters. On motion of Commissioner Laws, seconded by Commissioner Wilson, the following resolution was unanimously adopted: THAT WHEREAS, Orange County has had an all time Service Officer for the purpose of aiding veterans and their dependents in preparing proper claims for benefits justly due by the federal government; and WHEREAS, said service has proved of much public benefit, and es- pecially to veterans and their families: NON, THEREFORE, it is hereby ordered that an appropriation be in- cluded in the budget for the fiscal year beginning July i, 1949 and ending June 30, 1950, as follows: To Service Officer Salary $2100.00 Travel Allowance 200.00 Office Supplies and equipment 200.00 Total $$2500.00 On motion of Commissioner Nilson, duly seconded by Commissioner Laws, the following resolution was unanimously adopted: THAT WHEREAS, T. A. Burton has served as Division Engineer with the State Highway & Public Works Commission for the territory comprising the Fifth Highway Division for the past twelve years; and WHEREAS, during this period of service Mr. Burton has rendered most efficient and satisfactory service, and has shown an earnest desire to co- operate with the Board of County Commissioners relative to all road matters in Orange County; and WHE.92AS, Mr. Burton has given many years to travelling over not only the primary roads, but the secondary roads of this Division of the State, and is thoroughly familiar with all of the road mileage included within the Fifth Division, and is thereby better aualified to continue rendering satisfactory service than an engineer who is not personally familiar with the many problems arising in said Fifth Division. NOP /, THEREFORE, it is the earnest hose of the members of the Board of Commissioners of Orange County that Mr. T. A. Burton be retained as Divi- sion Engineer in order that the Board of Commissioners of Orange County may continue to receive efficient, satisfactory and cooperative service on the part of the highway organization so far as same affects the road problems of said county. That a copy of this resolution be forwarded to James A. Barnwell, Member of the State Highway & Public 7forks Commission for the Fifth Division, at Burlington, North Carolina, and one to Governor W.
