The Board met at 10:00 o'clock A,M. in the Commissioners'room at the
Courthouse. Present; Collier Cobb, Jr., Chairman, flan F. Wilson and Hubert
G. Laws, Commissioners.
The minutes of the March meetings were read and approved. —
Jun1A[us Jones of Route'1, Ffland, N. C. appeared with his father who
asked that Juniaus be exempt from further listing and payment of poll tax
due to physical disabilities.
NOW THEREFORE, upon motion of Commissioner Ylilson, duly seconded by
Commissioner Laws, Juni9[us Jones is hereby exempt from further listing and
payment of poll tax so long as present disability exists.
Dr. 0. David Garvin appeared and recommended that the Board appoint
Doctors Nathan and Vine as Rabies Inspectors in addition to Dr. Chrismon
who was aopo'_nted at a previous meeting.
NOVI THEREFORE, upon motion of Commissioner Laws, duly seconded by Com-
missioner WS1son,Doctors Nathan and Vine are hereby appointed Rabies Inspec-
tors for Orange County.
Mr. Grady Durham appeared and presented a road petition asking that the
road leading from J. T. Bradshaw's Store at White Cross to the Chatham County
Line by way of Antioch Church be hardsurfaced. The Board ordered the petition
held for further study.
Mrs. Jean N. Heer, Superintendent of Public Welfare appeared and presents
the 1949 -1950 Aid to Blind budgat calling for an appropriation of S1232.40.
Upon motion the Board unanimously approved this appropriation.The following
changes were also approved in Aid to Blind cases:
Decrease in grant of Jesse Pratt from P37.00 per month to
A24.00 per month.
increase in grant of Polly Wrenn from A24.00 per month to
S27.00 per month.
Increase In grant of Minnie Terrell from S16.00 per month
to 1`.19.00 per month. _
Mr. A. K. McAdams, Secretary of Production Marketing Association appeared
before the Board and reported that a considerable number of farmers in the —�
county were participating in the conservation program,
Don S. Matheson appeared and reported splendid progress in the programs
sponsored by the Agricultural Department.
Upon motiom of Commissioner Saws, duly seconded by Commissioner 'Wilson,
Mr. Van L. Kenyon, Jr. is hereby appointed Electrical Inspector for the North
ern part of Orange County. Said appointment e`fective April 15, 1949.
Upon motion, Ira A. Ward was appointed Orange County Accountant for a
term of two years, beginning April 1, 1949•
It was brought to the attention of the Board that the 1949 General
Assembly of North Carolina had passed an act giving the Board of Commissioner;
of Orange County the authority to' In its descretion, defer or postpone the
revaluation of property for the years of 191L9 and 1950.
After full discussion upon motion of Commissioner Wilson and duly seconds(
by Commissioner Laws, the following resolution was unanimously adopted:
Resolved: That the revaluation and reappraisal of property for taxation
in Orange County be defered and postponed for the years 1949 and 1950 as
provided in the act of the 1949 General Assembly.
