BACKGROUND: The Clerk's office has received a recommendation from the Social Services Board for the appointment of Patricia Garavaglia. If appointed, Ms. Garavaglia will be serving a partial term, which will end on 6/30/2008. FINANCIAL IMPACT: None. RECOMMENDATION(S): Consider making one appointment to the Social Services Board. Box 8181 Hillsborough, NC 27278 Dear Mr. Carey, The Board of Social Services (DSS) would like to recommend that the Board of County Commissioners consider the appointment of Ms. Pat Garavaglia to the vacant seat on the DSS Board. Ms. Garavaglia is a Carrboro resident and business owner, and as such would bring a different level of insight to'our Board. She and her business, Balloons and Tunes, have been the recipients of several awards for services to the community, including winning the Pauli Murray Human Relations Award in 2006. She has been active in this community for more than twenty years and currently chairs the volunteer group Friends of DSS. She also helps manage the holiday program for youth in Orange County foster care that brings in thousands of dollars in gifts for our foster children. We believe that Ms. Garavaglia would be a valuable asset to the Social Services Board. Please consider her for appointment. Thank you.
