HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES-2000-002 Resolution Indicating Southern Human Services Center Site is not an Option for Interfaith Council Facility Development . .sb 2 ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS RESOLUTION INDICATING THAT THE SOUTHERN HUMAN SERVICES'SITE IS NOT AN OPTION FOR IFC FACILITY DEVELOPMENT WHEREAS, on November 29, 1999 the Interfaith Council (IFC) requested that the County express their interest in providing land at the Southern Human Services Center(SHSC)site upon which to locate an IFC facility; and WHEREAS, the County has purchased 34 acres of land on Homestead Road, Chapel Hill to accommodate the long term growth of County services for citizens in the southern part of the county; and WHEREAS, future services needs for county functions have been identified to fill the available building sites on the property; and WHEREAS, long-term lease and/or sale of the land could jeopardize the County's ability to adequately address future facility needs in southern Orange County; and WHEREAS, IFC clients rely heavily on public transportation and since public transportation to the Homestead site continues to present dally challenges; and WHEREAS, the County supports the efforts of IFC to provide services to the homeless in our community and is willing to support IFC's efforts to develop relocation plans that best meet transportation and support services needs; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the land at the Homestead Road site should not be considered as a potential site for the IFC facility development.
