PURPOSE: The purpose of this Agreement is to receive $47,910 from the University of North

Wellness Program from July 30, 2001 through June 30, 2002.
BACKGROUND: In 1994, the Friends of the Chapel Hill Senior Center received funding to
implement a Wellness Program at each of the Orange County Senior Centers and rural
community centers. This three-year project, funded by the Kate B. Reynolds Foundation,

Wellness Coordinator position through contractual agreement with Orange County. This has
will continue to maintain existing programs and assist implementing new programs to promote
the health and well being of seniors in the County. The United Way will also continue to provide
operating expense support for this public/private partnership.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: There are no County funds associated with this program. Funding, up to
$47,910 for salary and benefits, for the Senior Public Health Educator is provided by UNC
Hospitals. United Way funds and class fees cover the operating expenses of the program.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends approval of the Agreement renewal
between UNC Hospitals and Orange County for the continuation of the Wellness Program and
that the Chair be authorized to sign the Agreement renewal.
