Maps Hillsborough 732-8181 Chapel Hill 968-4501 Durham 688-7331 Mebane (336)227-2031 PURPOSE: To discuss and receive comment on the Orange County 2001 — 2002 Secondary Road Improvement Program proposed by North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT). BACKGROUND: General Statutes of North Carolina (NCGS) Chapter 136-44.8 requires that NCDOT meet with the Board of County Commissioners at a public meeting to present to and discuss with the board and other citizens proposed secondary road paving projects (Secondary Road Improvement Program). NCDOT, in compliance with NCGS 136-44.8, has posted in the county courthouse a county map showing tentative secondary road paving projects and has published notice of the public hearing in county newspapers (the Mebane Enterprise, The News of Orange and The Chapel Hill News). The anticipated 2001 — 2002 allocation for secondary roads totals $ 1,637,402. It includes the following: Paving Rural Unpaved Roads (8 road segments - 6.37 miles) $1,270,000 Paving Subdivision/Residential Unpaved Roads (7 road segments - 1.65 miles) 307,402 Contingency 60,000 Total $1,637,402 The anticipated 2001 —2002 allocation represents a 14.6% increase from 2000 —2001. FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no direct financial impact associated with this decision item.
