Dear Ms. Walstad,
On behalf of the Orange County Board of Commissioners, I am responding to your
petition in asking Orange County to ban all wells that are not used for potable or fire
department purposes.
Your petition was reviewed by the Chair/Vice Chair/Manager at agenda review and it
was noted that you spoke at the August 27, 2012 Quarterly Public Hearing item under item C-
which generated questions on geothermal use. Orange County staff stated that the item,
"Class A Special Use Permit Major Subdivision — Dunhill (Weekley Homes LLC), was a hearing
for a 26 lot development on Mt. Sinai Road. And by your letter and also by your testimony at
the public hearing, you stated your concern about "pump and dump" geothermal cooling
systems for the public record. At the meeting, Board members and staff stated that this is an
old process that is not typically used in Orange County today. The applicant also stated they
would be more than happy to restrict "pump and dump" geothermal systems on the
development property.
I hope that this addressed your concerns.
This letter will be provided as an Information Item on the September 18, 2012 BOCC
agenda for public information.
