HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - 20060323APPROVED 514!2006 MINUTES ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS MEETING WITH SEARCH FIRMS March 23, 2006 12:15 - 2:45 p.m. The Orange County Board of Commissioners met to interview potential search firms for the Orange County Manager search on Thursday, March 23, 2Q06 at the Southern Human Services Center in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. COUNTY COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chair Barry Jacobs, Vice-Chair Stephen Halkiotis and Commissioners Moses Carey, Jr., Valerie P. Foushee, and Alice Gordon COUNTY STAFF PRESENT: Deputy Clerk to the Board David Hunt NOTE: ALL DOCUMENTS REFERRED TO IN THESE MINUTES ARE IN THE PERMANENT AGENDA FILE IN THE CLERK'S OFFICE. The Orange County Board of Commissioners met to discuss the County Manager search process and to interview and share information with potential search firms Jim Mercer with "The Mercer Group, Inc." introduced himself to the Board. NIr. Mercer spoke to the proposal previously submitted to the Board, pointing out key elements of the search process and the qualifications of his firm. Commissioner Carey arrived at 12:26 p.rn. The Board raised process questions and I~~Ir. Mercer provided additional details. The interview with hlr. Mercer ended at 1:05 p.m. Immediately following, Bob Slavin with "Slavin Management Consultants" introduced himself to the Board. The same interactive process as with the first candidate followed. The intervie«~ with Mr. Slavin ended at 1:40 p.m. After a short break for lunch, the Board met with Anita Badrock with "Smither & Associated, Inc.", starting at 1:50 p.m. Once again, the Board followed the same interactive process with the candidate. No proposal was provided. The interview with hls. Badrock ended at 2:30 p.m. The Board discussed plans for moving forward with the search. They agreed to each write none-page description of the traits and process they would like to see in a consultant and to share that page r~~ith each other at the next meeting. 1~ motion was made by seconded by Commissioner Carey seconded by Cornrnissioner Halkiotis to change the Board of Commissioners' regular 2006 meeting schedule by adding a special meeting on Thursday, March 30, 2006 at 5:30 p.m. at the Southern Human Services Center, prior to the l~ssembly of Governments meeting that same night, to discuss these proposals.
