HomeMy WebLinkAboutS Proclamation Disability Awareness WeekORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS PROCLAMATION ORANGE COUNTY DISABILITY AWARENESS WEEK May 1 -7, 2001 WHEREAS, persons with disabilities have abilities, talents and dreams, and with respect and acceptance, individuals with disabilities — mental or physical — can participate in our society and the work force to their fullest capacity; and WHEREAS, although Orange County offers many opportunities for people with disabilities, some of our citizens remain unaware of the capabilities and aspirations of people with disabilities; and WHEREAS, Orange County recognizes that persons with disabilities are a resource we cannot afford to overlook or not use to their highest potential; and WHEREAS, Orange County is committed to taking all steps necessary for the full integration of people with disabilities into our community; and WHEREAS, The Orange County Disability Awareness Council works to promote opportunities for disabled citizens to work and live in an environment free of barriers imposed by architecture, attitude, and /or lack of opportunity; and WHEREAS, Through the use of assistive technology, people with disabilities can gain equal access to employment; and WHEREAS, Orange County is proud to be a participant in the American Disability Act (ADA) which will celebrate its eleventh anniversary this year. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS do hereby proclaim May 1 -7, 2001 as NATIONAL DISABILITY AWARENESS WEEK in Orange County and urge our citizens to become more aware of the needs, capabilities and hopes of people with disabilities.
