PURPOSE: To review and discuss recommended departmental budgets within the Manager's
Recommended FY2012 -13 Annual Operating Budget.
• BACKGROUND: The County Manager presented the FY2012 -13 recommended budget on
May 15, 2012. Subsequently, the Board has conducted two public hearings to receive residents'
comments regarding the proposed funding plan. On May 24, 2012, the Board heard
presentations from Durham Technical Community College, Chapel Hill - Carrboro City Schools
Board of Education and Orange County Schools Board of Education. Additionally, the Board
began discussions with County Departments in regards to their departmental budgets.
Tonight's work session offers the Board an opportunity to continue discussing the
recommended budget proposals directly with County departments, including department fee
schedule change requests. The following departments are scheduled to attend tonight's work
session:
• Aging
• Animal Services (including Fee Schedule change requests)
• Asset Management Services
• Cooperative Extension
• DEAPR- Department of Environment, Agriculture, Parks and Recreation (including Fee
Schedule change requests)
• Economic Development, including the Visitor's Center and the Arts Council
• Health Department (including Fee Schedule change requests)
• Housing, Human Rights and Community Development
. • Human Resources
• Social Services
FINANCIAL IMPACT: Included in the Background Section.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board review and discuss the •
Manager's Recommended FY2012 -13 budget and provide direction to staff, as appropriate.
