ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
RESOLUTION
A Resolution Certifying the Bacon Family Farm as Qualifying Farmland and
Designating a Voluntary Agricultural District
WHEREAS, Orange County adopted a Voluntary Farmland Preservation Program Ordinance in
1992 with provisions for the creation of Voluntary Agricultural Districts; and
WHEREAS, since 1992 seven farms totaling 1,517 acres have enrolled in the Voluntary
Agricultural District program; and
WHEREAS, the Voluntary Agricultural Districts program has been a valuable tool in promoting
farmland preservation among willing participants; and
WHEREAS, Don Johnson, on behalf of himself and other family members, has applied to enroll
lands owned by himself and his family in the program; and
WHEREAS, the review by staffs from ERCD, Soil and Water and the Tax Assessor validate the
eligibility of 160 acres of the Bacon family lands in the application; and
WHEREAS, on April 17, the Agricultural Preservation Board approved certification of the
aforementioned 160 acres (as shown on the accompanying map) as qualifying farmland and
unanimously recommended the designation of Voluntary Agricultural District for these lands:
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED:
That the Orange County Board of Commissioners, in keeping with its interest in the preservation
of natural and cultural resources hereby designates the 160-acres of the Bacon family farm (as
shown on the attached map) as a Voluntary Agricultural District.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board thanks Mr. Johnson and the Bacon family for its
interest in the preservation of farmland in Orange County and for its long time commitment to
being good stewards of the land.
