The MapTrak pro- gram window contains display areas, in addition to menus and toolbars for executing commands. The MapTrak window is divided into a menu bar(see page 1-4), a toolbar(see page 1-12), and three main areas that display different types of information: the legend(see page 1-98),the refer- ence area(see page 1-101), and the map display area(see page 1-102).Each of the three informa- tion areas can be resized by dragging the panel dividers with the mouse. The MapTrak window also contains a Status Bar which displays information on the task being performed and the current status of the operation. The status bar displays the x,y coordinates of a location as it is selected with the mouse. The three information areas are: • Map Legend.Displays objects on the map when you select the corresponding check box. To remove an object from the map, clear it's check box. 01/18/10 � � SYSTEM DESCRIPTION NR The map displays the selected objects in the Map Legend area on the map in the order in which they appear in the Map Legend, beginning at the top of the Map Legend area. (See page 1-98.) • Reference Map. Displays a site's entire map in a smaller scale with a reference rectangle indicating the area that is currently displayed in the map display area. • Map Display. Displays the map. MapTrak displays the entire dispatch area for each site. You can add or remove details from the MapTrak using the Overlays menu. You can enlarge sections of the map, called Zoom Levels,to view areas in greater detail. The MapTrak program provides users with the ability to view"real-time"call for service (CFS) information on a mobile computer, in addition to different features of a map such as buildings, streets, and boundaries. Both data from the CFS information and map features are displayed on the map as objects. The MapTrak program plots and displays CFS information, as well as the location of units, as objects on the map. Using various tool commands available in the MapTrak program,the appear- ance of objects can be modified for display on the map.The MapTrak program includes command features that allow you to identify addresses and locations, as well as CFSs and units, on the map. The MapTrak program also allows you to fill in boundaries,to allow for distinguishing between parcels, quadrants,zones, and other areas that are displayed on the map. The CAD Status Display program is used by the CAD system to transfer CFS and unit informa- tion to the MapTrak program. The CAD Status Display program writes a file that the MapTrak program reads to update the map with current CFS information. The frequency of information updates to the MapTrak program is site-configurable. The CAD Status Display program only loads unit and CFS information for the selected resources. As a result,MapTrak displays only the units and CFSs that the CAD Status Display program dis- plays. When the MapTrak program detects new CFS and unit information from the CAD Status Display program, it clears its current state and reloads all applicable CFSs and unit information to its database. The CAD Status Display program transfers the following data to the MapTrak program: CFS Number, Incident Code,Address, Status,Attached Unit, Latitude, and Longitude. LogiSYS can configure your system so that optional functions can be turned on or off depending on your site's preference. In addition,to use short- est path the shortest path daemon(recd)must be running. 01/18/10 1-3 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION NR MapTrak: MAPTRAK MENU BAR y�i FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION Depending on what your site selects, not all of the menu options may appear on the MapTrak menu bar. This document describes all available options. CADTrak/MobileTrak must be running in order to use certain MapTrak functions, such as unit tracking. The drop-down menus that appear after choosing a menu item from the menu bar display a list of options for each menu. The listed items include all the options your site has purchased that belong under that particular menu. The menus display shortcut keys for several choices.A shortcut key is a way to use the keyboard rather than the mouse to execute a command.For example,the File menu shows"cTRL+P"next to Print, which means you can press the cTRL key and the letter P key at the same time, and the appropriate print window opens.Any menu choice with a similar keyboard notation beside the menu option name has a shortcut key. Opens the Travel Directions window, allowing you to generate travel directions from a starting location to a destina- tion. (See page 1-25.) Opens the Zoom Levels window allowing you to select an existing zoom level to display on the map, or to define a new zoom level. (See page 1-28.) Save Zoom Dispatch menu option. Saves the current zoom level displayed on the map allowing you to exit and reopen the program without requiring you to reset the zoom level. Add/Remove Layers Dispatch menu option. Opens the Add/Remove Layers window. (See page 1-32.) Send Address to CAD Dispatch menu option. Sends the selected address to the Incident Address field on the CFS Entry tab. 1-6 04/29/10 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION NR Link to System:This option is only available when CADTrak/Mobile- Trak is running, and must be enabled from the CFS Entry tab,via the Get Addr from Map popup menu. For example,you start from the CFS Entry tab and choose the incident address popup menu option Get Addr from Map.After making the map program the active window,choose an ID location icon to select a loca- tion. The menu option becomes available. New CFS Dispatch menu option.Allow you to create a new CFS from a location selected on the map without having to go to the CFS Entry tab to acti- vate the "send address" function. Links to System:When selected,the New CFS button sends a message to the CADTrak/MobileTrak program with the last identified location. The CADTrak/MobileTrak program then opens a new CFS Entry tab and populates the CFS location field with the address. The address is the same address as the last identified location in MapTrak,whether that was an intersection, street address,or latitude/longitude. When you open MapTrak, the toolbars appear along the top of your computer monitor's screen,just below the main menu, or along the right side of your computer monitor's screen. MapTrak has ten toolbars: the, Dispatch, Address Match, Scale, Selection, Display, Theme, Entity,Plot,Font, and Status. The toolbars are divided into sections,with each section containing a specific set of tools. MapTrak allows you to display or hide these toolbar sections using the Toolbars option on the View menu. (See page 1-5.) When you exit the MapTrak program,your placement and the positions of the toolbar sections are saved. Therefore placement and selection can be different for different users. Additionally, each toolbar section in the toolbars can be moved to a different location in the tool- bar or removed from the toolbar to become a floating toolbar. • Tracking A Unit. MapTrak provides you with the ability to track units displayed on the map through a connection with CADTrak/MobileTrak. (See page 1-24.) • Travel Directions.The Travel Directions functionality provides you with a recommended response route from one location to another using CADTrak/MobileTrak's shortest path functionality. (See page 1-25.) • Zooming/Panning. MapTrak provides you with tools to alter the map view. These tools have two types of functions:zooming and panning. Zooming allows you to focus on a par- ticular area of the map. For example,zooming in allows you to view a smaller area and zooming out allows you to view a larger area.Zoom Levels allow you to save a particular view for later use. Panning allows you to move around the map within a zoom level. For full addresses, intersections, and landmarks,MapTrak zooms to that exact location. For a street range,MapTrak zooms to the location of the lowest address on that range. It is not possible to zoom to a street with no number or range.When there is no street num- ber or range,the system disables the zoom button on the Address Matcher window. (See page 1-40.) Selecting an address or range allows you to zoom as described previously. 1-12 01/20/10 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION NR • Layers.MapTrak is comprised of different layers of images. These image layers provide the map area and data for your site. Image files for layers can be bitmaps,jpegs, or other types of image files. These image layers can be added to, or removed from,the map. (See page 1-32.) • Locations. MapTrak recognizes several types of locations: addresses, intersections, land- marks, and latitudes/longitudes. You can use MapTrak to search for and locate specific places on the map, as well as identify locations from the map. MapTrak places a label on the map whenever you find and locate a location using the Address Matcher window or identify a location using the location ID tools. • Themes.Themes allow you to display objects differently based on various types of non- geographic information, such as posted speeds on streets and elevation of peaks,that can be defined to display differently on the map. For instance,you can define a theme for the posted speed limits against the streets(object)to display differently on the map, such that when the theme is applied,streets with a posted speed limit of 15 m.p.h.displays in red,25 m.p.h. displays in blue, and so on. • Objects.MapTrak displays objects. Objects are data that can be plotted and displayed on the map, such as streets,rivers,hospitals,and boundaries. Objects are categorized into three groups: Point(such as buildings and parks),Line (such as streets and rivers), and Polygon(such as boundaries and lakes) • Measuring.MapTrak provides tools allowing you to measure distances and areas on the map, as well as determine the area of a user-defined line,polygon, rectangle, or circle. In MapTrak, distances are measured in units(such as miles,kilometers, and yards)which appear in the Unit drop down list. The Scale field indicates the width of the current map display.You can enter a different width in the field to change the map scale,which adjusts the map display just as if you zoomed in or out.The display zooms to the new scale,main- taining the center of your map • Analyzing Data. MapTrak provides the Data Analysis window as a means of analyzing data. The Data Analysis window displays data about objects selected on the map and allows you to create and apply queries to produce reports. LogiSYS can configure your system so that when you hover over an icon or list field on the tool- bars with your mouse, a pop-up displays the icon or field name. 01/20/10 1-13 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION NR TOOLBAR SELECTION OPTIONS Dispatch Toolbar The Dispatch tool toolbar provides tools you can use to track units, configure unit tracking, and add or remove layers from the map. Plot Layout Icon. Displays the plot layout of the map, allowing you to print. Track Unit Icon. Tracks the locations of units (as x,y coordinates)on the map via GPS technology and updates unit locations each time the AVL program sends new coordinates for a unit. (See page 1-24.) Links to System:Your site must have the AVL interface enabled for this functionality. A unit location must move more than 300 feet for CADTrak/Mobile- Trak to recognize a location change. Track Unit Configure Icon. Opens the Tracking Unit Attribute Editor window, allowing you to modify the display of units as well as add a label to the unit. (See page 1-78.) Link to System:Your site must have the AVL interface enabled for this functionality. Travel Direction Icon. Opens the Travel Directions window, allowing you to obtain travel directions. (See page 1-25.) Zoom Levels Icon. Opens the Zoom Levels window, allowing you to create zoom levels as well as select a zoom level to display on the map. (See page 1- 28.) Save Zoom Level Icon. Saves the current zoom level displayed on the map allowing you to exit and reopen the program without requiring you to reset the zoom level. Add/Remove Layers Icon. MapTrak provides you with the ability to track units displayed on the map through a connection with CAD.In order for MapTrak to update unit locations on the map,two CAD programs must be running simultaneously:the CAD Status Display and the AVL (Automatic Vehicle Locator)Inter- face. MapTrak updates the locations of units(as x,y coordinates) on the map via the CAD AVL Inter- face program. The AVL program tracks the location of specified AVL-enabled on-duty units via GPS technology and sends unit latitude/longitude coordinates to CAD via the CAD/AVL inter- face. CAD then updates unit locations each time the AVL program sends new coordinates for a unit.However, a unit location must move more than 300 feet for the system to recognize a loca- tion change. MapTrak allows you to configure the appearance of units selected for tracking.You can configure the appearance of these units in the Tracking Unit Attribute Editor window. (See page 1-78.) On the map display area,MapTrak displays the units as defined in the Tracking Unit Attribute Editor window. It contains .bmp or .jpg file extensions. MrSIDs/JP2.If your site uses a MrSID or JP2 image layer,MapTrak can be configured to display the images in one of two ways: 1)the images are always displayed or 2)the program displays a grid, allowing you to select the image(s)you want to view. This configuration depends upon the number of MrSID or JP2 image files used by your site. For example, if your site has a large num- ber of MrSID or JP2 image files,MapTrak is configured to display a grid. If your site has only a few image files,the program is configured to always display the images. • MrSID is an acronym for Multi-resolution Seamless Image Database. MrSID is a power- ful wavelet-based image compressor,viewer, and file format for massive raster images. MrSID enables instantaneous viewing and manipulation of images locally and over a net- work,while maintaining maximum image quality.This type of image compression is good to use because it can compress raster images of virtually any size without any noticeable reduction in image quality.Additionally,this type of compression allows large amounts of raster images to be quickly transmitted over a network. MrSID files have a file extension of.sid. • JP2 refers to the file extension for image files in the new JPEG2000 image format. The JPEG2000 image format is based on state-of-the-art wavelet compression. JPEG2000 is intended to provide low bit rate operation with rate-distortion and subjective image quality performance superior to existing standards,without sacrificing performance at other points in the rate-distortion spectrum. JPEG2000 is able to handle up to 256 channels of information,as compared to JPEG,which is limited to only RGB data.Thus,JPEG2000 is capable of describing complete alternate color models, such as CMYK, and full ICC (International Color Consortium). Point Data. A Point Data layer is generally data exported from another program into a delimited file, such as a comma-delimited file or a LogiSYS Geographic Data Analysis ("GDA") file.A comma-delimited file has a .csv extension and the LogiSYS GDA file has a .gda extension. This type of information can be added to the map. Shape Files. Shape files correspond to the objects listed in the Map Legend area of the MapTrak window. As such,MapTrak is initially setup to use these files. Therefore,this image layer does not need to be added to the map. (See page 1-98.) ESRI Data. The layers of the map are contained in an .mdb or .sde database.ESRI must be installed for the data to show. MapTrak allows you to associate non-geographic information with objects and apply that infor- mation to objects,for display on the map. This kind of non-geographic information is known as a theme. You can use themes, such as street speeds,unit information,and boundary information,to differentiate between various types of the same object and display each type differently on the map. For instance, if you are displaying schools as an object on the map,you can define a theme to display elementary schools in blue,middle schools in red, and high schools in green. Themes do not store any data. They contain a set of criteria(the theme expression)and record the display configuration for objects matching the criteria. The name of the theme, such as"MSLA Schools." • Theme Label. The label associated with the object.Labels can be configured to display different information,such as the name associated with the object.For example,if a theme is created and applied to the object called"Schools"and the Theme Label is configured to display the school name, each school displayed on the map displays its name in the label, such as"Franklin Park School." • Theme Attribute.The symbol associated with the theme when displayed on the map. • Theme Expression.The values that define the theme,such as [SPEED]==25.A theme is comprised of objects. The name of each object is the Theme Expression.
