From: Bob Marotto Sent: Wednesday, April 27, 2011 11:11 AM To: Donna Baker Cc: Paula Ragan; 'Kristine Bergstrand'; 'suzanne.e.roy@earthlink.net' Subject: Animal Services: ASAB Member Recommendations Donna Baker Orange County Clerk Donna, The Animal Services Advisory Board (ASAB) dedicated its April 20th meeting to considering recommendations for three vacant positions on the ASAB. /t did so on .the basis of various materials including direct discussion with applicants who attended previous ASAB meefings to introduce themselves and to learn more about the operation and scope of service of the ASAB. The ASAB recommendations are as follows: At large position: The ASAB recommends Donna Bravo. The ASAB was impressed with Ms. Bravo's commitment to working in the area of anirrral welfare by becoming an ASAB member. The ASAB was also impressed by Ms. Bravo's prior advisory board and volunteer experience and her professional experience as a research and development manager, Animal welfare/rescue .group representative: The ASAB recommends Lisa Woolman, DVM. The ASAB was impressed by Dr. Woo/man's interest in "provid(ing] solutions to the region's pet overpopulation challenges," and to her volunteer experience with Independent Animal Rescue, an area organization with which Animal Services regularly works. Finally, the ASAB notes the benefits of having another veterinarian as an ASAB member, not only generally but with respect to the need to have a veterinarian participate in standing 6 committees such as the Potentially Dangerous Dog Appeal Committee. • Hillsborough position: The ASAB is making no recommendations at this time. However, it wishes to note that there is an applicant that qualifies for this position (Katherine Doom). With respect to the Hillsborough position, I would suggest that your office make the Town's Clerk aware that there are currently two qualified applicants for consideration. In this way, the process of filling fhis position as soon as possible can continue moving forward. Please let me know if you need additional information. From: Bob Marotto Sent: Thursday, May 19, 2011 11:27 AM To: Donna Baker Cc: 'Kristine Bergstrand'; Suzanne Roy; Paula Ragan Subject: Animal Services: Another ASAB Member Recommendations Donna Baker Orange County Clerk Donna, At its meefing last night, the Animal Services Advisory Board (ASAB) unanimously decided to recommend that the BOCC appoint Michael Stewart to the at large position thaf will be vacated by Dan Textoris at fhe end of June as a result of term limits. The ASAB is making this recommendation based upon its ongoing effort to facilitate the BOCC appointment process. As previously mentioned, the ASAB has reviewed all available applications. The ASAB has also meet with interested applicants who wished to introduce themselves and to learn more about the operation and scope of service of the ASAB. The ASAB is unanimously recommending Mr. Stewart for a variety of reasons. One is his very strong and apparent interest in animal welfare which he would like to marry to the ASAB and its affairs. Another is his familiarity with the use of animals for social benefits as in the case of therapy dogs he has trained and brough# to different institutions. Yet another reason is that he and his wife posses not only companion animals but horses and fowl which they keep on their place in rural Orange County. I hope tha_f you are able to add this recommendation to the ones that 1 previously sent. The ASAB and staff are hopeful that the BOCC will be able to consider these recommendations before going into its summer recess. Note that the ASAB will still need to make a recommendation for the replacement of Jean Austen in the position for an animal welfare administrator and also that the Hillsborough position remains vacant. Please /et me know if you need additional information.
