Laws, Commies loners. The minutes of the July meetings were read sad approved. E9r. Z. D. Freeland appeared before the Hoard and stated that due to hie phye ical condition he was unable to do manual labor, and asked that they grant him a free license to peddle country produce and other commodities Sn the County. Novr Therefore, of tar cons iderntion of the above request end upon motion of Commissioner Laws, duly seconded by Commissioner Yfils on it 1s hereby order that Eir. Freeland be granted a free license to peddle merchandise in Orange County. G1ra. Aubrey Rarward end Etrs. T. W. Goodrich presented n road petition asking that the State Righway and Public }Yorks Commies ion take over and main- tain a road located west of Carrboro, lt. C., known as Parkway Drive, connec ti'. Righway No. 86 and the Old Greensboro Road, the distance being about 1700 fee Ltr. Don S. Lfatheson appeared before the Hoard and reported on the conditi of crops in the county. Ae stated tho the farm labor situation was somewhat li proved over last year but the wilt and black ehaxilt which was appearing in eom~ sections was causing the tobacco growers a good deal of worry. He stated the tobacco yield would be somewhat lighter than last year. A road pe tltion was presented asking that repairs be made to the road from Efland Righway by Pote at~s Grocery to Cedar Grove Rlgfivay. A petition was pree anted asking that the State Righway end Public t'lorks Commission take aver for maintenance nurpos as a one mile strip of public or private ly maintained road connecting the Efland-Ceder Grove road end the Efland-Hall's 1,1111 road. Application of J. N. Stanley to retail beer 1n Orange County, was upon motion, aooroved. IIpon motion of Cosunias loner Nils on, duly seconded by Commissioner Lawa, and all members voting in the affirmative, the following resolution levying 'taxes for the year 1948-1947 Se adopted as follows: On each poll the sum of 32.OU On each female dog the sum of 2.OU On each male dog the sum of 1.00 For General County Purnos as the sum of .15 For Public Re alth Purposes the sum of .03 For Suporior Courts and Jail the sum of .03 For General County Debt Service the sum of .155 For School Currant Expense the sum of .105 For School Capital Outlay the sum of .17 For School Hebt Service the sum of .lU For }Yelfare Service the sum of .14 The above making a county wide total rate of 30.88 on the each 5100.00 valuation of property. Ir,{ addition to the above levies, the maximum amounts of taxes allowed to be levied under Schedule B of the Revenue Act of 1939, as amended, are he reb levied. The County Tax Collector Se hereby authorized and instructed to Coll the maximum taxes as provided by said State Revenue Act. In addition to the appropriations of .35,B3S.00 made to the Cheocl H311 Special Charter -is tr act fox^ Cao ital Outlay purnosee, 3x14, E80.00 of the School Capitnl Outlay budget is specific¢lly ¢llocatod to sold D1s trlct for the purpose oi' ca na tructing two additional class rooms at the Urange Covnty Training School; 5?00.00 is allocated to said Lis tract for cost envolved in changes made in Agricultural Building to provide a Class room; end 51,71.41 is elloca tad to said Lis tract to pay costs of moving rock from site o? tho nevr class room unit.
