PURPOSE: To consider a proclamation designating April 10-10, 2011 as The Week of the
Young Child.
BACKGROUND: The Orange County Partnership for Young Children and other local
organizations, in conjunction with the National Association for the Education of Young Children,
are celebrating April 10-16, 2011 as The vlleek of the Young Child. The purpose of this
celebration is to bring public attention to the needs of young children and recognizing all those
who make a difference in the lives of young children.
Many organizations are working to improve early [earning opportunities, including early literacy
programs that can provide a foundation of learning for young children in Orange County.
The Board of Commissioners approved a similar proclamation last year.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact associated with consideration of the
proclamation.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve the proclamation
and authorize the Chair to sign it.

WHEREAS, the orange County Partnership for Young Children and other local
organizations, in conjunction with the National Association for the Education of Young
Children, are celebrating April 10~ 16, 2011 as The Week of the Young Child; and
WHEREAS, these organizations are working to improve early learning opportunities,
including early literacy programs, that can provide a foundation of learning far children
in grange County; and
WHEREAS, teachers and others who make a difference in the lives of young children in
Orange County deserve thanks and recognition; and
WHEREAS, public policies that support early learning for all young children are crucial
to young children's futures;
NaW THEREFaRE BE .IT RES[]LVED that we, the grange County Board of
Commissioners, do hereby proclaim April 10~ 16, 2011 as The Week of the Young Child
in Orange County and encourage everyone to work to make a good investment in early
childhood in North Carolina.
