BACKGROUND: Little River Acres (Subdivision of Lot 17): Residents of Trinity Lane (6 homes) have petitioned the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) to accept maintenance responsibilities for that road. Trinity Lane is located in Little River Acres subdivision off the south side of NC 57 at its intersection with Green Riley Road, Little River Township. The Orange County Board of Commissioners approved the preliminary plat for subdivision of Lot 17 of Little River Acres in March 1991. Eno River Estates: Residents of a 0.30-mile extension of SR 1323, Lake Orange Road, (2 homes), Ausling Way (2 homes), and Lattimore Drive (7 homes) have petitioned NCDOT to accept maintenance responsibilities for those roads. Ausling Way and Lattimore Drive are located in Eno River Estates Subdivision off the west side of Lake Orange Road as it rounds the southwestern edge of Lake Orange, Cedar Grove~Township. The Orange County Board of Commissioners approved the preliminary plat in July 1987 and the Planning Board approved the final plat on June 20, 1988. Burke's Meadow Subdivision: Residents of Harold Latta Drive (1 home), Clove~eld Drive (4 homes), Lemontree Lane (14 homes), Orchard Place (12 homes) and Red Fox Trail (11 homes) have petitioned NCDOT to accept maintenance responsibilities for those roads. Burke's Meadow subdivision lies between Orange High School Road, Governor Burke Road and NC 57, Hillsborough Township. Harold Latta Drive, off the northwest bend of Orange High School Road, provides major access for the subdivision, which is located in Hillsborough's Extra Territorial Jurisdiction. The Hillsborough Board of Commissioners approved the preliminary plat for Burke's Meadow, originally approved as Governors Downs Phase 1, in July 1995. NCDOT has investigated these requests (please refer to attached Secondary Road Addition Reports) and has submitted the petitions to the Board of Commissioners for its review and approval. The Board must take an administrative action to approve the petitions to NCDOT in order for NCDOT to add Trinity Lane, Ausling Way, Lake Orange Road Extension, Lattimore Drive, Harold Latta Drive, Lemontree Lane, Orchard Place, Cloverfield Drive and Red Fox Trail to the State Secondary Road System, and accept maintenance responsibilities for those roads. FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no direct financial impact associated with this item.
