Since the day I first set foot in Orange County I knew there was something very special about this diverse community. I felt as though it was one of North Carolina's best kept secrets. A person would have to travel far to find another place that equaled the rich cultural diversity found in our community. I am a better person for having lived here and made friendships with people I consider to be real treasurers. I would like to do what I can to help preserve the Orange County's beauty and help her grow. Other Comments: Although my attainment of the requisite degrees lies several years ahead still, I intend to be an architect of affordable, or workforce, housing. Professor Thomas Campanella of UNC's Department of City and Regional Planning has urged me to also pursue a Master's in Planning, and he has suggested I might currently play a role in local governance. To that end I am now apply for aposition on the County's Affordable 28 Page 2 of 2 Alan MacHett Housing Advisory Board. As a student of Anthropology, I believe my knowledge and skills in that field would benefit the Board. I am a critical thinker, but, futhermore, I am an outspoken advocate for justice and equality. As with many trends in America, there is a disconnect between public action and the reality of the situation; the housing market is one such trend. I hope to do some small part to assist those with little or no voice in this matter. STAFF COMMENTS: Originally applied for Affordable Housing Board 10/19/2008.
