HomeMy WebLinkAboutProclamation - EMS - Hurricane Awareness Week Proclamation 05-04-2004-6cORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS A PROCLAMATION HURRICANE AWARENESS WEEK May 16th through 22"d, 2004 WHEREAS, The National Weather Service has proclaimed the week of May 16 through 22, 2004 as Hurricane Awareness Week; and WHEREAS, Orange County is vulnerable to hurricanes, including the associated impacts of tornadoes, inland flooding, and strong winds; and WHEREAS, Hurricanes have impacted North Carolina 45 times since 1857; and WHEREAS, The Atlantic hurricane season lasts from June 1St until November 30St of each year, although hurricanes can occur before and after the season; and WHEREAS, The need for residents to learn more about hurricanes and how to protect themselves should be emphasized; NOW THEREFORE, The Board of County Commissioners hereby proclaims the week of May 16 through 22, 2004, as Hurricane Awareness Week, and encourages all residents to learn more about hurricanes and be aware of the dangers of associated impacts of tornadoes, inland flooding, and strong winds, especially during the Atlantic hurricane season.
