BACKGROUND: The Clerk's office has received a recommendation from the Historic Preservation Commission for the appointment of Mr. Rob Golan. The Historic Preservation Commission participates in the Certified Local Government program. All HPC members must have personal, professional, and/or organization experience related to historic preservation. Examples of appropriate professions include: architect, historian, architectural historian, archaeologist, landscape architect, planner, anthropologist, curator, conservationist, or folklorist, or other activities that are related to historic preservation. Members must also reside in Orange County's planning jurisdiction. Several other applicants have applied for the Orange County Historic Preservation Commission, but Mr. Golan is the only applicant who meets both the experience requirement of the CLG program and the residency requirement for Orange County. Mr. Golan knowledge in local history, historic buildings and related artifacts, and his previous experience on the HPC will lead to a more well-rounded preservation board. Mr. Golan would fill the seat of Len Vogel, who resigned in November when he moved out of the county. Historic Preservation staff has been in contact with Mr. Golan, he attended the HPC's December meeting and is interested in serving on the commission.
