The Hoard met et 10:00 o'clook A. I:t., in the Commie sinners Room
at the Court Hous a: Preeent, Collier Cobb, Jr,, Chairman, Ben F.

approved.
[r. Dan W. Clark appeared before the Board with reference to get-
ting a road scraped in the Fairfield Church community,
L;Ses Woodward Hyers, Home Demonstration Agent, appeared before the
Board and submitted a narrative report of the work done through her
office for the month of July, 1945. She also ores anted a report oP the
Curt lierhet sales for the same period, showing a total sales oP 53,620.02.
Bill of Charlie Childers for 21 chickens killed 'oy doge, was approved
for 510.00.
Upon motion, it is hereby ordered that Nanny Neville be paid $5,00
for one 5 weeks old calf kili.ed by dogs.
Upon motion, the application-oYffi AuYusJemesHarFington for aid to
the blind, was approved for .$17.00 par month.
The apnllcation oP Mrs. Rubp H. Davis for license to retail beer in
Orange County, was upon motion, approved.
In comollanoe With order oP July meeting, the Clerk to this Hoard
presented list of tax payers who had paid their 1944 taxes. After care-
fully checlcing these names, xhe Hoard hereby ordsrs the names placed in
Jury Box No. 1.
Upon motion of ComTias loner Lews, end seconded by Com:issioner
Nilson, the following res ol-~t ion was unanimously adopted:
RESOLVED, That mhereae a term oY Court for the trial of civil cases
is scheduled Por Superior Court of Orange County to oonvene on August 27,
1945; and einereee the members of the Bar of Orange County have petitioned
the Board of Comvieeionere oP Orange County to ask for the cancellation
of the said term oP court due to the fact that very few, if any, cases
could be disp need of et said term: end whereas civil term Yor the said
County Se scheduled Por October 1,1945;
210N, THEREFORE, The Hoard of Comn iesionere of Orange County being of
the opinion that it would be to the beet interest of Orange County to call
off and cancel the said term of court which is to convene on August 27,1945,
do resnec tfully ask and petition Ais Excellency, R. Gregg Cherry, Governor
of the State oP North Carolina, for the cancellation of the said term oY
court Por the teas one herelnbefore eet fourth.
Upon motion oS Commissioner Wilson, duly eeconded by Commissioner
Lens, and all. members voting in the aYfirmat ive, the following resolution
levying taxes for the pear 1945-1945 Ss adopted ae follows:
On each poll the sum of 52.00
On each female dog the sum of 2.00
On each male dog the sum of 1.00
For General County Purnoe es the sum of ,15

For Superior 8ourte and Jail the sum of .027
For General County Debt Service the sum of .138

The above making a county wide total rate oP .98 on the eaoh $100.00
valuation of prop arty.
im addition to the above levies, the maximum amounts of taxes ell owed
to be levied under 6ohedule B of the Revenue Aet of 1939, as amended, are
hereby levied except as to Sill ing stations end automobile deal ere, in
whioh case no tax is levied, With this exception the county flax collector
is hereby authorized and instructed to collect the maximum taxes ae pro-
vided ~ny said State Revenue Act.

and all members of the Board voting in the affirmative, the Pollowing
rea olution oovering annrooriat ions for the fiscal year 1945-1946 le
adonted, to-wit:
That Orange County appranriate for its budget for the fiscal year
beginning July 1, 1945, and ending June 30, 1946, the following emounte,
to-wit:
For General County Fund the sum of $25.130,00
For Public Health Fund the sum oP 5,460.00
For Superior Courts end Jail the sum of 7,500.00
For County Debt 9ervioe the sum of 32,042,50
For Salary Fund the sum oY 26,689,00
Por School Current Expense Fund the sum of 40,439.00
For School Capital Outlay Fund the sum of 130,006.00
For School Debt Bervlee the sum of 18,915,50
For ;lelfare Fund the sum oY 31 397.56

That the above soproprlation to the Sal y F n of 526,669.00 ie
derived by using an unencumbered Balenoe of $~~ other revenues
such as commies ions and fees to the amount of y~i~L,-?C~..~l. with an annro-
priation from the General Cotmty Fund of 511, 733. 26,whieh emount ie
necessary to raise the total needed for county salaries. This apnroprf-
ation of .511,733.28 is hereby epeoiYicelly transferred from the General
County F~2;idi-$vg'e'4Ue to the Salary Fund, and said amount Ss in addition
to the A ~6 99 which annears in the above described budget under the
head of Gs petal County Fund.
That in the above appronriatione for schools, as will be shown in
detail by reference to School Budget statements which have teen filed .,
by Orange County Hoard of Eduoat ion, and which have been approved by
this Board, it Sa determined that Chapel H111 9nec Sal C::art~g D~rt
shall receive under the head oP Current Expense the sum of 'i-y
and under the head of Can ital Outlay the sum of p5, $35.00, end under
the head of Debt Service the sum of $578.00.
In eddition to the aporopriat ion of $5, 335.00 made to the Chapel
Hill Special Charter District for Capital Outlay nuroos es, $110,000.00
of the School Capital Outlay Hudget 1s eneclYically allocated to the
Chapel H111 Special Charter District for the purpose of ending needed
class room faclliti ae for high school puroos ee.
That under the head of Nelfara 1n the above adonted budget the
total appropriation by Orange County amounts to $Tf3.,~SX.pB, which amount
edded to the funds to be made available by FederalGov'drnment and the
State of North Carolina in the amount of 5~, 3',LZ.da will make a total
Nelfere Budget of 583, SyTP..aQ.
