PURPOSE: To consider making two new appointments to the Advisory Board on Aging.
BACKGROUND: The Clerk's office has received recommendations from the Advisory Board on
Aging for Mr. Michael Symons and Ms. Mary Fraser. If appointed, Mr. Symons will be serving a
a partial term expiring 06/30/2012 and Ms. Fraser will be serving a full term expiring 06/30/2012.

At the November 10, 2009 meeting of the Advisory Board on Aging the current
applications for membership to the Advisory Board were reviewed.The Advisory Board
on Aging recommended that Mr.Michael Symons be considered for nomination to
vacant position#9 as an at-large representative.
Mr. Symons is retired from University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill where he was a
Professor of Biostatistics. He has been an Orange County resident since 1969.
Mr. Symons has served in a voluntary capacity with many community organizations. He
has been a member of the Friends of the Seymour Center Board for six years and is
currently its Vice-President. In addition to his role on the Friends Board,Mr. Symons
has been an invaluable volunteer at the Seymour Center as well as a participant in many
of its programs.
Mr. Symons has attended several Advisory Board meetings and expressed interest in
becoming a member. His combination of volunteer experiences makes him an excellent j
candidate for appointment to the Advisory Board on Aging

Prior to moving to Chapel Hill in 1993, 1 worked for 11 years for the Utah State Division of
