~~ .ao©~-doh i~ ~~-o~ ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS f d RESOLUTION HONORING LANTERN RESTAURANT WHEREAS, Orange County. takes pride in all farmers and agricultural enterprises that enhance the County; and WHEREAS, local restaurants that buy vegetables, meats, and dairy products from local farms in Orange and neighboring counties create new market opportunities for longtime farm families and new young farmers who are beginning their farms; and WHEREAS, chefs and restaurant owners have many opportunities to educate their diners about supporting local farmers and agricultural enterprises; and WHEREAS, Lantern Restaurant and its chef-owners, Andrea & Brendan Reusing, have provided exceptional opportunities for local farmers to gain important local and national exposure through articles and interviews published in national food publications; and WHEREAS, Lantern Table, a dinner series initiated by Andrea Reusing focuses on local farms and food producers, with periodic dinners throughout the year that showcase farmers and products as the seasons progress; and WHEREAS, the Triangle Slow Food chapter, currently led by Chef Andrea Reusing, provides opportunities for the general public to attend special food tasting and provides direct. links to local farmers markets websites; and WHEREAS, Chef Andrea Reusing recently coordinated the `local farmer's market community' contingent of 17 local farmers to the international Slow Food event named "Terra Madre" in Turin, Italy; and WHEREAS, as "convivium leader" for the local slow food chapter, Chef Andrea Reusing is working to make the month of June an annual "EAT LOCAL" month; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Orange County Board of Commissioners congratulates Andrea & Brendan Reusing and their staff of 32 at the Lantern Restaurant on their national recognition as one of three southeastern restaurants listed on the TOP 50 restaurants across the nation, noting the restaurant's "commitment to local farmers."
