HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES-2006-074 Agricultural Conservation Easement with Vickie & David McKee~~5 -a7oc~~ --0'7 ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMIVfISSIONERS ~ "~ l °~ ~ ~J ~~ RESOLUTION Approval of Agricultural Conservation Easement between Orange County and Vickie and David I~IcKee 1JifHEREAS, Orange County has an adopted goal. promoting the preservation of farmland in the County; and yl(HEREAS, agriculture in Orange County is an important facet of the economy and way of life in the County; and ~kt'HEREAS, one component ofi the Lands Legacy Program is the acquisition ofi conservation easements on prime or threatened farmland within water supply watersheds; and WHEREAS, the McKee farm includes approximately 92 acres in the Gane Creek protected watershed, consists of a majority of prime soils, and is located in an agricultural community with goad access to farm markets; and VIfHEREAS, a matching grant was awarded to Orange County from the federal Farm and Ranch Land Protection Program to help protect the future of this fame with an agricultural conservation easement; and VItHEREAS, a conservation easement on approximately 92 acres of this farm provides awin- win scenar"ro -ensuring the preservation of this farmland for future generations, compensating the McKee family for this long-term commitment, and establishing a lasting legacy for both the Kirk. and McKee families; NC~~tV, THEREFORE,I3E IT RESOLVED that the Orange County Board of Commissioners does hereby 1 }accept on behalf of Grange County the agricultural conservation easement to protect prime farmland owned by Vickie and David McKee; 2} approve the execution of this conservation easement agreement with Vickie and David: McKee, in accordance with the terms of the proposed easement agreement, subject to final review by staff and the, county attorney; and 3) authorize the Chair and the Glerk to sign the easement agreement on behalf of the Board, with a closing to occur on or about November 30, 2006.
