RESOLUTION HONORING TURNABOUT GOAT FARM WHEREAS, Orange County takes pride in all farmers and agricultural enterprises that enhance the County, and WHEREAS, local farms that produce breeding stock fill a critical niche in animal production by providing breeding stock to commercial livestock producers at all. scales of production, and WHEREAS, farming heritage is a strong asset to all residents of Orange County and Turnabout Goat Farm actively farms approximatelyl0 acres of an origina1900-acre land grant tract, and WHEREAS, Amy Mabe and Earl Brewer, fifth and sixth generation descendants on the same farm land, have in the past eight years established Turnabout Goat Farm as a premier breeding institution using embryo transfer to obtain rare and exceptional traits from bucks all across the nation, and WHEREAS, Amy Mabe is currently serving as an apprentice judge, on her way to becoming a fully accredited United Stated Boer Goat Association judge, and WHEREAS, "percentage goat" refers to the percentage of pure-bred boer (the premier meat goat) in an animal, with goats having more than 50 percent boer eligible for registration with US Breed Associations, and WHEREAS, the North Carolina Meat Goat Association's 2005 Breeder of the Year for Percentage Goats title was awarded to Turnabout Goat Farm in recognition of its outstanding performance in at least 25 goat shows throughout the South, NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Orange County Board of Commissioners heartily congratulates Amy Mabe and Earl Brewer on their successful contributions to local agricultural production and commends them for providing a model for successful agricultural diversity in Orange County.
