Blythe, Clerk MINUTES ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS SPECIAL MEETING DECEMBER 23, 1987 The Orange County Board of Gommissianers met in special session on Wednesday, December 23, 1957 at 7:30 p.m. in the Board of Commissioners' Room, Orange County Courthouse, Hillsborough, North Carolina. BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT: Chair Shirley E. Marshall and Commissioners Moses Carey, Jr., Stephen Halkiotis, John Hartwell and Don Willhoit. ATTORNEY PRESENT• Geoffrey Gledhill. STAFF PRESENT: Assistant County Manager William T. Laws, Interim Assistant County Manager Beverly M. Whitehead, and Clerk to the Board Beverly A. Blythe. Chair Marshall called the Special Meeting to order. She stated the purpose of the meeting is to consider the appoint- ment of a County Manager. Motion was made by Commissioner Halkiotis, seconded by Commissioner Willhoit to appoint John M. Link, Jr. as Orange County's County Manager effective February 15, 1988. VOTE: UNANIMOUS. ADJOURNMENT With no further business to consider the meeting was adjourned. Shirley E.. Marshall, Chair Beverly A. Blythe, Clerk STATEMENTS MADE BY JOHN LINK John Link stated "The Orange County Managers job will be a professional challenge. I am extremely grateful in the confidence the Commissioners have shown in me and I hope to live up to it. It's delightful to be able to come back. to Orange County so I can be closer to my family and to be able to offer my immediate family the quality of life that only this area can provide." He indicated he is looking forward to working with the Commissioners, the administrative staff and all those who work for Orange County. ?39 APPROVED JANUARY 19. 1988 MINUTES ORANGE CDUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS DECEMBER 18, 1987 SPECIAL MEETING The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in special session on December 18 at 12:00 noon for the purpose of adjourning into executive session to receive the results of the assessment center and to initiate negotiations with the county Manager candidate. BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT Chair Shirley E. Marshall and Commissioners Moses Carey, Jr., Stephen Halkiotis, John Hartwell and Don Willhoit. Motion was made by Commissioner Halkiotis, seconded by Commissioner Carey to go into executive session for the purpose of selecting the new County Manager. VOTE: UNANIMOUS. Motion was made by Commissioner Willhoit, seconded by Commissioner Halkiotis to return to special session. VOTE: UNANIMOUS. Chair Shirley E. Marshall continued the meeting to Saturday, December 19 at 9:00 a.m. at 707 E. Franklin Street, Chapel Hill, North Carolina to deliberate further on the selection of a manager. The meeting was further continued to 11:00 a.m., December 19, Board of Commissioners Room, Hillsborough, North Carolina. Motion was made by Commissioner Halkiotis, seconded by Commissioner Carey to go into executive session.- VOTE: UNANIMOUS. Motion was made by Commissioner Carey, seconded by Commissioner Hartwell to return to special session. VOTE: UNANIMOUS. with nothing further to consider, Chair Marshall adjourned the meeting.
