PURPOSE: To consider a proclamation proclaiming May 4 through May 10,
1998 as County Clerks Week.
BACKGROUND: The position of clerk is one of the oldest in local
government, dating at least to biblical times. The term "Clerk" has
long been associated with the written word; so it is that modern-day
clerks are official record keepers for their cities and counties. This
proclamation recognizes the valuable contributions made by clerks which
helps determine the quality of local government in the present, affects
the direction of the future and keeps a record of the past.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve and authorize the Chair to sign a proclamation
proclaiming May 4 through May 10, 1998 as County Clerks Week.

Office of the County Clerk,
