PURPOSE: For the Board to consider renovations to the area between the
building and the sidewalk.
BACKGROUND: The renovation plan for the Skills Development Center did
not include a design for the area between Franklin Street and the
entrance to the building. Dick Wilkerson, Professor of Design at NC
State University was kind enough to come to this facility with his
assistant. He created a plan which shows before and after pictures for
a pocket park which would allow seating around the trees and a
continuation of the brick sidewalk up to the building. This was at no
charge to the County.
RECOMMENDATION: Refer to the Chapel Hill Appearance Commission as part
of the Skills Development Center application.
