A RESOLUTION DESIGNATING
THE NORTHERN HUMAN SERVICES CENTER'S
SOUTHERN PARKING LOT
A REGIONAL PARK AND RIDE LOT
WHEREAS, the Orange County Board of Commissioners support the Triangle Transit
Authority's provision of alternative modes of transportation to include ridesharing and
transit; and
WHEREAS, the Orange County Government Department Directors that provide services in the
Northern Human Services Center have reviewed this site and have found that a Regional Park
and Ride Lot would not interfere with their department's service provision to the citizens of
Orange County; and
WHEREAS, the North Carolina Department of Transportation's Division Engineer has
reviewed the site and found it suitable for being paved as a Regional Park and Ride Lot; and
WHEREAS, the Triangle Transit Authority's staff has reviewed the site and stated that they will
provide Park and Ride Lot signs and also market it as a Regional Park and Kide L ot; and
WHEREAS, the 1995 Orange County Transportation Priority List requested a park. and ride lot
north of the town of Hillsborough on NC 86.; and
WHEREAS, the intent of the Park and Ride Lot is to provide for a method to take vehicular
traffic off of Churton Street and other congested. roads in Orange County and the Triangle
Region; and
WHEREAS, the promotion of carpools, vanpools and transit have a positive impact on the Air
Quality of the Triangle; and
WHEREAS, the Orange County staff will submit a request to the N.C. Department of
Transportation to cover the costs of paving the designated park and ride lot; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT The Orange County Board of
Commissioners do hereby with this resolution declare that they unanimously support the
utilization of the Northern l-luman Services Center's Southern Parking Lot as a Regional Park
and Ride Lot.
