PURPOSE: To recognize three individuals for their courage in pursuing
a suspect in an assault at the Orange County Courthouse.
BACKGROUND: On Monday, September 16, a woman was attacked in a
restroom at the Orange County Courthouse in Hillsborough. Harvey Clark,
courthouse custodian, and Arthur Yancey, assistant district attorney,
pursued the suspect as he fled the courthouse. They were soon joined
by Chapel Hill Officer Scott Taylor, and the suspect was apprehended
after a chase through downtown Hillsborough. Because of the heroic
efforts of these three individuals to save another citizen from harm or
death, the Board of County Commissioners recommended on October 6,
that they should receive the Orange County Hero Award.
