The Historic Preservation Commission participates in the Certified Local Government program. All HPC members must have personal, professional, and/or organization experience related to historic preservation. Examples of appropriate professions include: architect, historian, architectural historian, archaeologist, landscape architect, planner, anthropologist, curator, conservationist, or folklorist, or other activities that are related to historic preservation. Members must also reside in Orange County's ptanning jurisdiction. Several other applicants have applied for the Orange County Historic Preservation Commission, but Mr. Gilfillen is the only applicant who meets both the experience requirement of the CLG program and the residency requirement for Orange County. Please convey this to the Board of County Commissioners for their consideration in June. Mr. Gilfillen would fill the seat of Robin Moran, who resigned in April. Mr. Gilfillen's knowledge in architecture, architectural history and his previous experience on a historic preservation commission will lead to a more well-rounded preservation board.
