ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
A RESOULUTION ENDORSING THE SMITH LEVEL ROAD TASK FORCE REPORT
AND RECOMMENDATIONS
WHEREAS, the Carrboro Board of Aldermen created the Smith Level Road Task
Force in response to three citizen petitions describing concerns regarding safety along
Smith Level Road; and
WHEREAS, the Smith Level Road Task Force has completed its tasks, and has
requested the opportunity to present the final report to the Board of Orange County
Commissioners; and
WHEREAS, jurisdictional authority along Smith Level Road is shared by Orange
County and the Towns of Carrboro and Chapel Hill, as the greater portion of Smith
Level Road is outside the Town of Carrboro's Municipal Limits, and serves as the
boundary between the Extraterritorial Planning Jurisdictions of the Towns of Carrboro
and Chapel Hill; and
WHEREAS, the Smith Level Road Task Force seeks endorsement from all three
jurisdictions having interests and responsibilities in the Smith Level Road corridor to
improve safety for all modes of travel;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Orange County Board of
Commissioners that the Board endorses the recommendations of the Smith Level Road
Task Force for slowing vehicular traffic on Smith Level Road and for improving access
for non-vehicular traffic as put forth in the Report of the Smith Level Road Task Force.
