ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
RESOLUTION
CELEBRATING THE 25T" ANNIVERSARY OF
HILLSBOROUGH HOG DAY
WHEREAS, the Hillsborough/Orange County Chamber of Commerce has conducted
Hillsborough Hog Day in Orange County for 25 years; and,
WHEREAS, Hillsborough Hog Day has grown from a small bake sale into an
established summer festival attracting national attention; and,
WHEREAS, family-friendly fun with a wide array of entertainment from diverse musical
groups to arts and craft displays draws thousands of visitors to Orange
County on the third weekend in June each year; and,
WHEREAS, Hillsborough Hog Day celebrates one of North Carolina's most important
agricultural products, pork, by hosting 30 teams of cookers to turn three
tons of pork into slow cooked barbecue for consumption by Hog Day
attendees; and,
WHEREAS, Hillsborough Hog Day is coordinated by the members and staff of the
Hillsborough/Orange County Chamber of Commerce with hard-working
volunteers from organizations, businesses, and civic groups from across
the county; and,
WHEREAS, Hillsborough Hog Day was named one.of the "Summer's Best Activities" by
MSN.com in 2005; and,
WHEREAS, Hog Day was reference specifically when the National Trust for Historic
Preservation designated Hillsborough as one of America's "Dozen
Distinctive Destinations" in 2007; and,
WHEREAS, the Silver Anniversary of Hillsborough Hog Day will be celebrated on
Friday, June 15 and Saturday, June 16, 2007;
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that the Orange County Board of Commissioners do
hereby recognize Hillsborough Hog Day for 25 years of barbecue and fun
in Orange County.
