ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING. STEVE SCROGGS DAY
WHEREAS, Steve Scroggs will be retiring from his position as Assistant Superintendent of Support
Services with the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools on June 1, 2008, after 12 years
of service; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Scroggs has been responsible for many challenging and controversial issues during
his tenure, including redistricting/student assignment, budget, human resources,
transportation, food service, maintenance and construction; and,
WHEREAS, he and his staff have been responsible for overseeing the construction of Smith Middle,
Rashkis Elementary, Carrboro High and Moms Grove schools, and he was principal
at McDougle Elementary when it opened; and,
WHEREAS, he has been recognized by the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Association of Education Office
Professionals three times since 2000 as the "Administrator of the Year"; and,
WHEREAS, Steve Scroggs comes from a family focused on education, with his mother having served
as a school board member and is the namesake for Mary Scroggs Elementary School;
and,
WHEREAS, in addition to a commitment to local education, Steve Scroggs served as a teacher in the
Peace Corps; and,
WHEREAS, Steve Scroggs has attended many Orange County Board of Commissioners' meetings,
representing the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools System, snappily attired in his
trademark bowtie;
NOW, THEREFORE, we, the Orange County Board of Commissioners, do hereby recognize Steve
Scroggs for his outstanding service to the staff, parents and especially the students of
the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools System and the people of Orange County.
