Orange County Board of Commissioners Planning Retreat

Retreat Objectives:
1. Agree upon criteria for creating successful advisory boards and commissions
2. Evaluate advisory boards and commissions using criteria
3. Decide which advisory boards and commissions' best support the BOCC's vision and
goals.
4. Determine next steps in adopting policies for Orange County's advisory boards and
commissions.

1. Meals for BOCC Meetings
• Does the County want to develop a policy that states that a certain percentage of food
that is served at Commissioners' meals (such as 30% or 1/3 over a year's time) must be
grown in Orange County, and would this percentage be a reasonable amount)
2. Policy for Commissioner Travel
• Discussion to decide if the funds for this line item should be as a group (7) or individual travel
line items ;
• Can BOCC members transfer funds from one member to another
3. Meeting Times for BOCC Meetings
• Start times for BOCC meetings- formal adoption -discussion of the 7pm vs. the 7:30pm start
time.
4. Revision of Rules of Procedure Book

PUBLIC CHARGE
The Board of Commissioners pledges to the citizens of Orange County its respect. The
Board asks its citizens to conduct themselves in a respectful, courteous manner, both with
the Board and with fellow citizens. At any time should any member of the Board or any
citizen fail to observe this public charge, the Chair will ask the offending person to leave
the meeting until that individual regains personal control. Should decorum fail to be
restored, the Chair will recess the meeting until such time that a genuine commitment to
this public charge is observed. All electronic devices such as cell phones, pagers, and
computers should please be turned off or set to silent/vibrate.
