BACKGROUND: The Board of County Commissioners is asked to schedule a public hearing during its regular meeting on Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at the Southern Human Services Center at 2501 Homestead Road in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The purpose of the public hearing will be to receive public comments on potential items for inclusion in Orange County's legislative agenda package for the 2010 North Carolina General Assembly Session. The County's Legislative Issues Work Group consisting of Commissioner Valerie Foushee, Commissioner Barry Jacobs, and County staff is reviewing items for possible inclusion in Orange County's legislative package. Information on the proposed items will be provided to the BOCC and others prior to the February 16 meeting. It should also be noted that the Clerk to the Board has scheduled a joint legislative breakfast for the BOCC and Orange County's legislative delegation for February 22, 2010. FINANCIAL IMPACT: Any funds necessary to provide the public notice are included in the Clerk to the Board's budget for the current year. RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends the Board direct the Clerk to the Board and the County Manager to publish a notice of the Board's intent to hold a public hearing during its regular meeting on February 16, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at the Southern Human Services Center at 2501 Homestead Road in Chapel Hill, North Carolina to receive public comments on potential items for inclusion in Orange County's legislative agenda package for the 2010 North Carolina General Assembly Session.
