HomeMy WebLinkAboutProclamation proclaiming April 6 - 12, 2008 as Orange County Government Week ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMNIISSIONERS Orange County Government Week April -12, 2008 PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, the nation's 3,066 counties provide a variety of essential public services to communities serving 300 million Americans; and WHEREAS, in appearance and characteristics, these counties differ as widely as the nation of which they area a part; and WHEREAS, the role of county governments has become increasingly complex and sophisticated as the demands placed upon them continue to grow; and WHEREAS,the National Association of Counties is the only national organization that represents county governments in the United States—raising awareness and understanding of county contributions, advancing with a unified voice county issues before the federal government, assisting through research and education in finding and sharing innovative solutions to county concerns, and providing value-added information and technical services to help counties save taxpayers' money; and WHEREAS, the National Association of Counties first celebrated National County Government Week in 1991 to raise public awareness and understanding of how counties strive to meet the needs of growing and diverse communities; and WHEREAS, Orange County government invites and encourages all residents to become active and stay involved in working vigorously towards solutions for the public good; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Orange County Board of Commissioners do hereby proclaim April 6-12, 2008 as National County Government Week in Orange County, North Carolina.
