7• The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in regular session on _.,_
8• Monday, June 25, at 7:30 p.m., in the Commissioners Room, of the Orange
g• County Courthouse, in Hillsborough, North Carolina.
10. Commissioners present: Commissicr~er Richard Whitted, Chairman,
11. and Commissioners Norman Gustaveson, Don Willhoit and Anne Barnes.
12. Commissioner Norman Walker was absent.
1 3• Chairman Whitted added an item to the agenda concerning Vietnam
1~+• Veterans awards.
15• Commissioner Gustaveson moved, seconded by Commissioner Willhoit,
16. preliminary acceptance of a report made by Commissioner Barnes concerning
~7• awards to Vietnam Veterans and requested this item be placed on the July Znd
1$• agenda for formal action. Vote: ayes, 4; noes, 0.

~0° Thereafter, the Board discussed the following budget items:
~1• Orange County Jail, EMS Council, Public Works, Motor Pool, Water and
~~• Sewer, Capital Projects, Personnel far Sheriff's Department, Mileage
23• Reimbursement, Road Naming Program, Salary Increases for Employees,
~4• Retirement Fund far Sh,.~iff's Department, Sedimentation and Erosion
2 5• Control, Administration Personnel, County Personnel Department, Central
2b• Purchasing Department, Mealth Services, 5oi1 and Water Conservation
27° Personnel and Municipal Support.
28. It was the consensus of the Board to authorize 19 cents per mile to
2 9• reimburse county employees. for mileage with the provision that each
30• department submit a conservation plan for Board review; that if after
31• review of conservation plans submittCd there is need for an increase,
32• the Board may do so at that time; that at this point there will be no
33° increases in departmental budgets for mileage_
3~+• It was the consensus of the Board to contract or otherwise provide for
35. janitorial services to maintain acceptable cleanliness standards at the
36. county jail.

The Board added the following figures to the county budget by
consensus: Council on Aging - $6,516, Nutrition Program (Meals) - $3,000,
Health Aid - $3,360, Sheriff Department's Retirement Fund - $4,000,
Administration - $5,200, Road Naming Project - $15,250.
The Health Director spoke about expansion of school health services,
family planning and a fee collection system.
The Finance Officer submitted a memorandum concerning county
collect ion: functions and related finance reorganization. For copy of
this memorandum, see page 546 of this book.
Thereafter, the Chairman adjourned the meeting. /' ~
