HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - 19790614y F~ A MINUTES ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS JUNE 14, 1979 The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in special session on Thursday, June 14, 1979, at 7:30 p.m., in Room 110, of the Carrboro Town Hall, Carrboro, North Carolina. Co-mnissiorc•r•s present: Commissioner Richard Whitted, Chairman, and Commissioners Norman Walker, Norman Gustaveson, Anne Barnes and Don Willhoit. Road Matter• Commissioner Whitted gave a brief history of events that occurred with the Department of Transportation, Department of Commerce and the W. H. Brady Company concerning construction of an access road to the W. H. Brady Company's property. Commissioner Gustaveson moved, seconded by Commissioner Walker, to approve a resolution to the North Carolina Department of Transportation _ to amend the becondary Road Program for Orange County. Vote: ayes, Commissioners Whitted, Walker and Gustaveson; noes, Commissioners Barnes and Willhoit. See page 523 of this book far copy of said resolution. Commissioner Walker left the meeting at this time. Human Services Bud et: - . Aldermen Jonathan Howes and Bev Kawalec reviewed a letter from ` the Mayor of Chapel Hi11 regarding human services funding and municipal support. For copy of this letter, see page 524 of this book. Thereafter, Mr. Wes Hare, Director of JOCCA; Mr. Wilson McKerrow, Chairman of Council on Aging; Mr. Jerry Passmore, Director of Council on Aging; Ms. Kay Huey, representing RSVP; Ms `. Mary Boone, representing • Chapel Hill Library; Mr. Lloyd Osterman, Director of Hyconeechee Regional . Library; Ms. Elaine Barney, representing Women's Health•Counseling Service; Mr. Bob Strayhorn, Chairman of Recreation Advisory Council; Mr. Wayne Weston, Director of Orange County Recreation Department; Ms. Connie Renz, representing Orange-burham YWCA Coalition for Battered Women; Ms. Margaret Shakelford, representing Rape Crisis Center; Ms. Marilyn Sparling- ;.~~~2 representing OASIS; Mr. Jim Spencer, pirector of Janus House, and Ms. Nancy Park, representing Orange County Commission for Women, reviewed requests and answered questions concerning proposed 1979-80 human services budgets. The Board requested the Director of the O-P-C Mental Hearth Center and the Director of Social Services check to see whether various human services agencies requesting funding were duplicating those services currently offered 6y the county. Commissioner Gustaveson expressed his concern that the Board had not progressed any further in its budgetary processes. Commissioner Barnes moved, seconded by Commissioner Willhoit, the meeting be adjourned.
