I have worked and lived with wild and exotic animals my entire life. I currently run
CLAWS, Inc. as the Executive Director. This is an organization that I started 3 years
ago. Our mission is to rehabilitate native wildlife, rescue exotic animals for which there
are no other rescues, and educate the public about the animals with which we share our
planet.
In this capacity I do everything from daily animal care, to triage of injured or sick wildlife,
assist animal control with situations concerning wildlife, work closely with several
veterinarians on caring for many different species. I maintain all of the permits that we
possess from the state as well as two different federal agencies. I maintain all of the
records on all of the animals that come through or live here that are required by the state,
the USDA and the USDI.
I am also responsible for volunteer coordination as well as outreach programs.
I have also helped write two veterinarian books on exotic species, several articles for
Exotic DVM magazine, written an instructional paper for the USDA on keeping raccoons
in captivity and been published in several magazines about exotic animals, their care and
what a large undertaking that care is.
Volunteer Experience:
I was a volunteer at the Carnivore Preservation Trust for 10 years. Have been a wildlife
rehabilitator for 22 years now, in three different states.

Having been to these committee meetings, I've seen that there is little to no
representation for either wild or exotic animals at this time. Given that there are so many

Work Experience:
I am a retired thirty year Navy Medical Admin. Officer and Vietnam Veteran. I formerly
was employed at the Sportsplex for two years and now work partime at the Carolina
Fitness Center in Carrboro.
Volunteer Experience:
I am a Member of the Orange County Advisory Group for the County Sportsplex in
Hillsborough. Chiarman Barry Jacobs asked me to apply for this fine position on the
Planning Board for Orange County.
Education:
Middletown, NY High School - "63 AA, Business Administration, Trenton, NJ '65 BA,
Business Administration, Kent State, Kent, Ohio '73
Other Comments:
I was on the forefront in quietly assisting the County with the vast purchase of the
Sportsplex by offering up heads up information to assure a smooth and. reliable take over
Ethan Vance (the Sellor) by the County for the population for our Orange County
residents. I have some ideas that could increase the revenues cycle and we need to
make our county resident aware of the facility with perhaps a county wide campaign.

I love animals and would like to help put them in good homes. Also, I am very concerned
with the socio-economic status of several people working in Chapel Hill. I would like to
influence factors that are keeping these people barely a step above poverty. Hopefully be
