PURPOSE: To consider one reappointment to the Chapel Hill Library Board of Trustees.
BACKGROUND: The Clerk's office has received a recommendation for reappointment from
the Chapel Hill Library Board of Trustees for Evelyn Daniel. If reappointed, Ms. Daniel will be
serving her second full term ending 6/30/2012.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: None.
RECOMMENDATION(S): Consider making one reappointment to the Chapel Hill Library Board
of Trustees.

Description: The Library Board of Trustees is responsible for recommending long-term plans, policies, and programs of library service throughout the community. It advises the Mayor and
Council on library matters, develops plans for library facilities, and recommends operating policies of the library. The Trustees are also responsible for the monitoring of non-
budgeted gifts and donations received by the library.

SUBJECT: Recommendation for the Chapel Hill Public Library Board vacancy
DATE: July 20, 2009
RECOMMENDATION:
The Chapel Hill Public Library Board of Trustees met and by a Unanimous vote has made the
following recommendation to the County for consideration:
Evelyn Daniel, Appointment, Trustee
BACKGROUND:
Dr. Daniel has served as the Orange County representative on the Chapel Hill Library Board of
Trustees since June 2005. As a faculty member at the UNC School of Information and Library
Services, she is well qualified for this position. Her term is expiring and it is time for the County
to appoint a representative to the Board of Trustees.
Evelyn has been a strong member of the Chapel Hill Public Library Board and has most recently
served as Vice-Chair. She has been very active in the Orange County Library Services Task
Force and was instrumental in the development of the services plan. She brings the perspective
of Carrboro and Orange County to Board discussions and has worked diligently to align the
interests and perspectives of all library stakeholders.
We appreciate having a County representative on the Board, and we strongly encourage you to
re-appoint Evelyn Daniel since she has been an effective Trustee and is passionate about library
services for all residents.
Once you have made your decision, please notify Kathy Thompson, CHPL Library Director,
about your appointment.
