Don.S Yathesan Orange-County Farm Agent appeared before the-Board, and urged
in

ana orderea spread an the minutes of this meeting.to-wit:
UPON motion of Commissio=P Cobb- duly seconded by Commi sioner--.-
-Wilson, the following resolution was unanimoulsy adoi;dd t 1
W.HMEAS,the United-States Government has for the past six yeare,done
extensive conservation work through Civillian-_Conservation Camps, and where s,during -
said six year period,Orange C ounty,North"Carolina has never had a Conservation Camp lo-
cated in its boundaries„but"has received a very small service withing the Northern
area of said County,from Campo,,, located within, Durham and Alamance Counties
AND WHEHEAS,the United States Department of Ag ioulture has
established a very extensive Forrestry Nursery, in the Southeastern part of Orange Coun-
ty,and in order to furnish necessary labor for said Nureery_ ,there is new be ng located
near said Nurse*4 a CivilIian Conservation Camp, with a capacity of Two Hu dred,to Two
hundred and twenty men, That from the" inforation available this entire UnIii of two Hun
dred to two Hundted and twenty men, will be required to carry on the Nessary work,in con
nection with the alcove Forrest Nurserys
AND WHERFAS;the United States Lepartm nt of Agri-
culture through its s6 , surve$$ Branch has recently made an extensive surves. of the-W67,
ter shed of the University Lake`the Water supply of the University of North arolina,and
the downs of Chapel Hill and Carboro) and the adjacent land which- survey dia loses,thati
the present rateof- erosion in this territory is extremely high, and that the University'
Lake is silting up at a wavdAkat a rapid rate,and"present estimates are that said lake
will be c cmpletely filled in approximately seventy five years,;
AND i1MEAS,It most im-
pottant to Orange Caunty,the University of North Carolina,and the Tenons of"C pel Hill
and Carboro, that an adequate supply be preserved for future geheratighs;
NO1i,T1MEFORE,BE,JT Resolved by the Board o Commisioners
of Oran.ge Ccunty;that these facts be brought to the attention of the Direeto of Civillian
Conservation Camps in Washington.D.C.,and that an earnest request be made to said Direc�r
to enlarge the camg which is now being constructed,iso that same will have a pacity of
rnt less than three hundred men,thus providing apptoximately two hundred men for the labor
needed in connection with the Forrest Nursery pr6gram, and an additional o e hundred men
for work of a conservation nature in the area of the lake and watershed whiolk furnishes
the water supply of the University of North Carolina, and the Towns of Chaps Hill and Car
boro.
