PURPOSE: To apply for and accept by December 18, 19.98 $7,632 in
special state operating funds designated for Orange County
to support Work First/Employment transportation needs.
BACKGROUND: The N.C. Dept. of Transportation Public Transportation
Division has available for FY98-99 $1 Million for Work
First/Employment Transportation Operating Assistance funds. The
funds will be provided to each county through a formula based
on rural population and Work First caseload. Based on the
formula, Orange County's allocation is $7,632 to be used between
July 1, 1998 and September 30, 1999.
Orange County Public Transportation Program (OPT will administer
the funds. The funds would be used to purchase trips to the
employment training center and to work sites. The service would
be provided by existing public providers, specifically the
Chapel Hill Transit, OPT and the Triangle Transit Authority (TTA).
OPT will work closely with the Dept. of Social Services in
identifiying eligible participants.
