PURPOSE: To consider awazding a bid for repairs to the front porch of the Orange County New
Courthouse.
BACKGROUND: As part of the 1998-99 budget, the Board approved an appropriation of $100,000 in
the Public Works budget to begin addressing needed improvements to County facilities that aze smaller in
scope than a CIP project, but more extensive than can be addressed through annual maintenance and
repair appropriations. The Board reviewed a report on needed facility improvements at the October 20,
1998 meeting and approved a list of projects that will be addressed during 1998-99. An allocation of
$31,000 was included for repairs to the front porch of the Orange County New Courthouse.
The work for this project shall consist of replacing all brick pavers, quarry tile, cast iron hand rails and
repairing and replacing limestone balusters on the upper landing. Specifications were developed, the bid
was advertised and sent to six contractors. Apre-bid conference was held. Only one bid was received,
from Patriot Builders of Hillsborough, North Carolina. This bid was reje:,ted.
Orange County staff sought additional potential contractors and re-solicited bids. Another pre-bid
conference was held. Again only one bid was received, from Patriot Builders of Hillsborough, North
Cazolina. The total amount of the bid was $30,800. A bid tabulation is attached.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board award the bid to Patriot Builders
of Hillsborough, North Cazolina in the amount of $30,800 for the repairs to the front porch of the Orange.
County New Courthouse.
