PURPOSE: To recognize Marty Ravellette for his heroic actions in
assisting a trapped motorist in a burning vehicle.
BACKGROUND: On Tuesday, October 13, Marty Ravellette spotted a burning
vehicle with an 86- year -old woman trapped inside. With total disregard
for his personal safety, Mr. Ravellette used his feet to kick in the
window of the vehicle and pulled the woman to safety.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve and present to Mr. Ravellette the Orange County
Resolution of Commendation, with a copy sent to the press and that the
Resolution be spread upon the minutes of this meeting, the fifteenth day
of December, 1998.

This is in follow up to our conversation this evening. The Board of County Commissioners
would like to honor you for your recent act of heroism in rescuing the woman who was trapped in
her burning car. Thank you for accepting this invitation to attend the next Board of County
Commissioners meeting to accept this award.
The meeting will be held on December 15, 1998 at 7:30 in the Southern Human Services
Center, Homestead Road, Chapel Hill. The directions are as follows: Take Airport Road to the
intersection of Homestead and Airport Road. This is at the very start of the road construction on
Airport Road. Go left on Homestead at that intersection. Stay on Homestead for 3/10's of one
mile and go left at the sign for the Southern Human Services Center. Follow that driveway until
you come to our building. Park in the front of the building and come in the front door.
We look forward to seeing your on Tuesday, December 15th at 7:30 p.m. You will be
honored at the very beginning of our meeting.
