ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF,EQTTALIZATION.AND REVIEW
APRIL 21, 1977
The 1977 Ox'ange County Board of Equalization and Review convened at
7:30 p.m., April 21, 1977, in the Commissioners' Room of the Courthouse
in Hillsborough. Present were Chairman Richard Whitted, Commissioners
Norman Gustaveson, Jan Pinney, and Donald Willhoit.
Absent was. Commissioner Norman Walker.
- The Board heard appeals of 1977 real property tax valuation by the
following persons for the indicated properties:

The Board also heard the appeal of Deborah McNeil of Chapel Hill
Township from the evaluation of her automobile for 1976 and by appropriate
order reduced this valuation from $11,450 to $5,350. The Board considered
... appeals by Thomas G. Johnson of the valuation of his two parcels in
5trayhorn Hills Subdivision (Eno Township, Tax Map 27A, Block C Parcel
16, 17) and by Calbar Investment Company (R. N. Barringer, President) of
the valuation of its two lots in Clark Hills Subdivision (Chapel Hill
Township, Tax Map 42, Block D, Parcel 1 and Tax Map 42, Block A, Parcel
16) although Mr. Johnson and Mr. Barringer were not present.
The Board on its own motion considered the valuation of properties
of William T. Tolliver (Chapel Hill Township, Tax Map 86, Block A, Parcel
5) and Argusta Edwards (Chapel Hill Township, Tax Map 86, Block A, Parcel
6) .
- The Board adopted appropriate order confirming the valuation of
$54,800 appealed by James W. Lester; reducing the valuation appealed by
Thomas G. Johnson from $6,000 (both parcels) to $3,200 (combined parcels);
increasing the valuation appealed by Calbar Investment Company (Chapel
Hill Township, Tax Map 42, Block A, Parcel 16) from $6,500 to $7,300;
reducing the valuation appealed by Calbar Investment Company (Chapel Hill
Township, Tax Map 42, Block D, Parcel 1) from $3,900 to $3,100; reducing
the valuation of the property of William P. Tolliver from $40,600 to
$14,400; reducing the valuation of the property of Argusta Edwards from
$42,600 to $18,500.
The Board deferred resolution of the appeals by Benjamin F. Swalin
and Mary Alice Danziger pending further consideration and recessed to
reconvene at 7:30 p.m., on April 26, 1977.

The 1977 Orange County Board of Equalization and Review convened at
7:30 p.m., April 26, 1977, in the Commissioners' Room. of the Orange Count
Courthouse in Hillsborough. Present were Chairman Richard Whitted,
Commissioners Norman Gustaveson, Jan Pinney, and Donald Willhoit.
Absent was Commissioner Norman Walker.

The Board also considered appeals by Artelia Degraffenreidt, (Cheeks
Township, Tax Map 26 , Parcels 33 , 35, 36) and George S . Malindzak, Jr. ,
(Chapel Hill Township, Tax Map 134, Block A, Parcel 1 , #25 Sleepy Hollow
Subdivision) althrough Ms . Degraffenreidt and Mr. Malindzak were not
present, the Board on its own motion and in consequence of its considera-
tion of an appeal by Thomas G. Johnson on April 21, 1977 , reviewed the
valuation of all lots in the Strayhorn Hills Subdivision in Eno Township
and by appropriate order determined that all lots in the subdivision be
appraised at $3 ,000 per acre for 1977 , except for those lots which have
frontage on Lake Overlook which lots shall be appraised at $4 ,000 per acre .
The Board adopted appropriate orders reducing the 1977 valuation
appealed by the Oaks Development Company from $2 ,488 , 200 to $2 , 334 ,200 ;
confirming the present valuation of the property of J.H.H. Associates,
appealed by J. Herbert Holland (Chapel Hill Township, Tax Map 81 , Block
B, , Parcel 3A) ; confirming the 1977 valuations appealed by James R.
Farlow (Hillsborough Townshp, Tax Map 5 , Block A, Parcels 20 , ;20A) ;
reducing the 1977 valuation appealed by James R. Farlow (Chapel Hill Town-
ship, Tax Map 112A, Parcel 17) from $1,500 to $800 ; confirming the 1977
valuations appealed by Artelia Degraffenreidt (Cheeks Township, Tax Map
26 , Parcels 33, 36) ; reducing the 1977 valuation appealed by Artelia
Degraffenreidt (Cheeks Township, Tax Map 26 , Parcel 35) from $6 ,200 to
$4,200; confirming the 1977 valuation of $6 ,600 for the property of
George S. Malindzak, Jr. , (Chapel Hill Township, Tax Map 134 , Block A,
Parcel 1; #25 Sleepy Hollow) .
The Board deferred resolution of the appeals by Mebane Lumber Company,
Inc. J. Herbert Holland (Chapel Hill Township, Tax Map 85 , Block M, Parcel
15; Tax Map 85 , Block L, Parcel 30) , and Murry W. Holland (Chapel Hill
Township, Tax Map 89 , Block D, Parcel 8) pending further consideration.
The Board recessed to reconvene on May 17, 1977 .
