PROCLAMATION RECOGNIZING
UNC WOMEN'S SOCCER
2008 NCAA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
WHEREAS, on December 7, 2008, the University of North Carolina women's soccer team
captured the NCAA Women's Soccer National Championship; and,
WHEREAS, under the guidance of Head Coach Anson Dorrance, UNC earned its 191' NCAA
title and 20 overall national championship since 1981; and,
WHEREAS, the Tar Heels completed the season with 25 wins to finish with a 25-1-2 record;
and,
WHEREAS, by this 2008 victory, in a time when collegiate soccer has reached parity, UNC
women's Soccer has returned to the forefront of the sport; and,
WHEREAS, through hard work, dedication, teamwork, and commitment, the Tar Heels have
brought honor upon themselves, the University of North Carolina, Orange County
and the State of North Carolina;
NOW, THEREFORE, be it proclaimed that the Orange County Board of Commissioners
expresses its sincere appreciation and recognition to the University of North
Carolina women's soccer team for their outstanding victory and their inspiration to
the youth across the Nation through their athletic leadership and teamwork.
