Background: At the December 1, 1998 Board of Commissioners meeting, the Board
approved the creation of the new Environment and Resource
Conservation Department (ERCD). It began operation on January 4,
1999. As part of the proposal to create the new department, two new
positions were planned: an administrative assistant and a natural
resource conservation manager. This abstract addresses the
Administrative Assistant position. Staff will return in February with the
proposal to establish the natural resource conservation manager
position.
The Administrative Assistant will provide administrative and clerical
support to the new ERCD department. In addition, the Administrative
Assistant will provide administrative support to five advisory boards
(Commission for the Environment, Historic Preservation Commission,
Shaping Orange County's Future Task Force, Water Resources
2
Committee and Master Recreation and Parks Work Group, which
includes preparing minutes for three of the five boards.
As provided in the new department report, funding for the new
Administrative Assistant will come from the Board of Commissioners'
contingency fund and estimated costs (including salary and benefits)
are $12,000 for fiscal year 1998-99 (assuming the position is filled in
March) and $36,000 for fiscal year 1999-00.
Recommendation: The Manager recommends the Board establish the new permanent full
time Administrative Assistant II position effective January 20, 1999.
