BACKGROUND: Realignment of portions of 13 State - maintained secondary roads in Orange County has resulted in new sections being added and existing sections of those roads being abandoned for maintenance. Copies of letters, forms for addition (SR -4) and abandonment (SR -5), along with maps are included for the following roads: Bunny Road, Atkins Road, Yates Road, Wagoner Dairy Road, Millikan Road, Frank Perry Road, Schley Road, Baldwin Road, Bacon Road, Bill Poole Road, Lebanon Road, Doc Corbett Road, and Bennett Road. NCDOT has already straightened out and improved some of the curves on the above mentioned roads. Now they want to: 1) assume the maintenance responsibilities for the new sections of roadways, and 2) abandon the maintenance responsibilities for those sections of old roadway that have been restored to grass sections. This is an administrative action needed to document NC DOT's responsibility for maintenance for those areas that have been improved. The work has already been done, no decisions are required other than to approve NC DOT's request to maintain the new roadways and to not maintain the new grassy areas.
