PURPOSE: To receive comments from the public regarding the FY 2009 Small Cities
Community Development Block Grant Program.
BACKGROUND: The N.C. Department of Commerce -Division of Community Assistance has
announced the availability of funds for infrastructure projects in the state that eliminate severe
water and wastewater (sewer) problems with health and environmental consequences.
Approximately $2 million dollars is available in this category with a maximum per community of
$750,000. There is also a five (5) percent match requirement by local government.
The application window ends Friday, June 30, 2009. By that date, interested applicants must
submit a Letter of Interest, a Preliminary Engineering Report (PER), and beneficiary surveys in
order to be considered for a future application for these funds.
After initial public comment is received and if there is interest in pursuing CDBG funding, County
staff will work to assemble the required information delineated above for submission to the
Division of Community Assistance.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: None.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends the Board receive comments as
information.
