RESOLUTION
OFFICIAL NAMING -CEDAR GROVE PARK
WHEREAS, Orange County has demonstrated its commitment to construct an outdoor
park facility for the residents of Cedar Grove Township and northwestern
Orange County, co-located with the Northern Community Center on NC 86
North; and
WHEREAS, The County, in partnership with members of the community, prepared a
Master Plan for the site which was adopted in December 2005, using the
working title of Northern Park; and
WHEREAS, The Board adopted the Orange County Property Naming Policy on March 3,
2009; and
WHEREAS, In accordance with the requirements of the policy the Board reviewed a
report from the County Manager on March 17, 2009, which outlined the
history of the development of the park and the outreach process for naming
the park; and
WHEREAS, Community residents have considered the selection of names and have
voiced their preference for the name "Cedar Grove Park; and
WHEREAS, The Recreation and Parks Advisory Council (RPAG~ has also reviewed the
list of names and supports the name "Cedar Grove Park"; and
WHEREAS, The new park facility is scheduled to open on Apri118, 2009;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Orange County Board of
Commissioners does hereby officially name its newest park facility located on
NC 86 North, six miles north of I~illsborough, as Cedar Grove Park.
